Who am I ?
I am Ricki Sickenger, from Bergen, Norway. I have two three kids, a great girlfriend, and a chronic coding itch. I split my time between family and coding.
I got my first computer, a Commodore 64, in 1986. It didn’t take long before I wanted to know how the games I was playing were made, so I started learning Basic, and eventually Assembly. I kept coding all through my youthful years, upgrading to an Amiga in 1989, and getting my first PC, a 486 DX2-66Mhz, in 1993. After 3 years working on a Computer Science engineering degree and an additional 2 years at Bergen university, I start working at a web-design company in 1998.
I had been nurturing a dream of making games since I was a kid, and in 2000 I co-founded a company to make an MMO called Darkfall. We were a bunch of guys with high ambitions, and an odds-defying determination setting out to make one of the most ambitious MMOs yet conceived.
To cut a long story short we moved to Greece and released Darkfall on the 25th of February 2009. Darkfall has become one of the most controversial and talked about “niche” MMOs released, and in my opinion it is a bloody good game!
So, what happens next? I moved back to Norway after the release of Darkfall, and have been working remotely for a while. Right now my main job is working as an IT-consultant, while making games in my free time. I felt a need to broaden my horizons, and doing something completely different tends to help do that 😉
I bought a Canon 550D in 2011, and started experimenting with it trying to learn the art of photography. Now, 5 years later I still have loads of stuff to learn and I still love taking pictures. I mostly take pictures when hiking in the mountains or when I am kayaking.
That is who I am. Thanks for reading.
